POVOS DA FLORESTA, UNIDOS EM ALIANÇA, LANÇAM MANIFESTO PARA SALVAR A AMAZÔNIA DAS TRAGÉDIAS DA MUDANÇA CLIMÁTICA

NÓS, os Povos da Floresta, reunidos no Rio Negro durante o I Seminário "A Importância dos Povos da Floresta no Contexto das Mudanças Climáticas Globais", realizado pela Aliança dos Povos da Floresta, organização histórica de defesa da Floresta Amazônica e da melhoria da qualidade de vida dos povos que nela habitam, vem de público:

ALERTAR:

Sobre o impacto das mudanças climáticas no Planeta, no Brasil e emespecial na Floresta Amazônica. Cientistas prevêem que o aquecimento global poderá elevar a temperatura na Amazônia em até 12 graus Celsius ainda neste século. Com o aumento da temperatura haverá menos chuvas e mais secas, diminuindo a biodiversidade e tornando impossível a vida da população da Amazônia, principalmente dos povos que vivem na floresta. Esse impacto já está sendo sentido por nossas comunidades, onde nossas populações indígenas já não podem ser guiadas pelo calendário lunar, porque o clima já alterou os fenômenos da natureza na nossa região.

RECOMENDAR:

1. A inclusão de mecanismos para incentivar a redução das emissões de carbono oriundas do desmatamento tropical nas políticas públicas internacionais, nacionais e regionais, porque a história nos ensina que não há possibilidade de construir um desenvolvimento sustentável para a Amazônia sem a participação das populações que nela habitam.

2. O reconhecimento e o desenvolvimento de alternativas para remunerar os povos da floresta por seus serviços ambientais de manutenção da floresta em pé prestados ao Brasil e ao mundo. Assim, a comunidade internacional e o Governo Brasileiro estarão fazendo justiça e dando aos povos da floresta o mesmo tratamento dado hoje às grandes plantações industriais, de compensações através do mercado internacional de carbono. Para isso, a Aliança dos Povos da Floresta sugere ao Governo Brasileiro abrir de imediato um amplo debate nacional sobre a elaboração de uma agenda socioambiental para as obras de infra-estrutura necessárias para o desenvolvimento da Amazônia e do Brasil.

3. O repúdio à atitude irresponsável do atual governo dos Estados Unidos, maior emissor de GEE do mundo, ao se retirar das negociações internacionais e ao se recusar a tomar medidas concretas para reduzir as suas emissões.

Em face desta grande ameaça, a Aliança dos Povos da Floresta Amazônica decidiu:

1. Organizar o II Encontro Nacional dos Povos da Amazônia Brasileira, a ser realizado em Brasília, Brasil, entre 18-12 de setembro de 2007 como um Fórum Aberto para a Sociedade Brasileira interagir com os povos da floresta.

2. Criar seu próprio mecanismo de compensação, o MECANISMO CARBONUETRALIZADOR DOS POVOS DA FLORESTA, MCPF, a ser emitido pela Aliança dos Povos da Floresta, para ajudar a parar o desmatamento e reduzir a emissão de carbono na Amazônia. Além de dar uma resposta concreta às necessidades dos povos da floresta que estão lutando para defender a Amazônia para as gerações presentes e futuras, o MCPF vai atuar como um mecanismo independente e complementar, sendo negociado em nível nacional e internacional.

Estamos à disposição da mídia e da sociedade de todo o mundo para fornecer informações adicionais àqueles que se preocupam com o futuro do Planeta e da Amazônia.

PEOPLES OF THE FOREST, UNITED IN NA ALLIANCE OF THE PEOPLES OF THE FOREST, LAUNCH MANIFEST TO SAVE THE AMAZON FROM THE TRAGEDIES OF CLIMATE CHANGE

WE, the Peoples of the Amazon Rainforest, reunited in the Negro River during the "I Seminar on the Importance of the Peoples of the Forest in the Context of the Global Climate Change", organized by the Alliance of the Peoples of the Amazon Rainforest, a twenty-year old network working in the defense of the Amazon and of a better way of life for its peoples, decided:

WARN:
About the impact of the Climate Changes on the Planet, Brazil and the Amazon. Scientists reiterate that global warming can elevate the Amazon temperature in up to 12 degrees Celsius still in this Century, which will result in less rain, more draught, less biodiversity and more danger for the peoples of the Amazon. And this impact is not virtual. It is already been felt by our communities, where our indigenous populations can no longer use the lunar calendar, because the weather has already changed in our region.

RECOMMEND:

1. The inclusion of mechanisms to reduce CO2 emissions resulting from deforestation among the international, national and international policies because history has shown us over the years that sustainable development cannot be done without the participation of the peoples of the forest.

2. The Development of Alternatives to compensate the Peoples of the Forest for the environmental services they do to Brazil and to the Planet. In this way, the Brazilian Government will be doing justice by giving the true guardians of the forest the same treatment being given to the Brazilian entrepreneurs in the current negotiations of the Kyoto Protocol. And the way of starting this would be for the Brazilian Government to urgently start an open and broad debate about the role of the climate change in the development agenda now being
proposed to the Country.

A strong protest against the irresponsible position of the United States, the number one polluter among all the countries of this world, for not ratifying the Kyoto Protocol.

INFORM:

That, in face of the great threat, the Alliance of the Peoples of the Amazon Rainforest decided:

1. Organize the II National Meeting of the Peoples of Brazilian Rainforests, to be held in Brasília, Brazil, from September 18-21, 2007, as an Open Forum for the Brazilian Society to mingle and interact with the peoples of the forest.

2. Create its own compensation mechanism, the MECANISMO CARBONEUTRALIZADOR DOS POVOS DA FLORESTA, MCPF, to be issued by the Alliance of the Peoples of the Forest, to help halt deforestation and to reduce the Carbon emissions in the Amazon. Besides giving a concrete response to the needs of the peoples of the Rainforest who are fighting to defense the Amazon for present and future generations, the MCPF will act as an independent and complementary mechanisms now being negotiated at the national and international levels.

Make ourselves available to the media and the world societies to provide any further additional information to those who care about the future of the Planet and of the Amazon.
